These wines are the result of patient ageing in large barrels of 50 and 30 hectoliters. There is no such as thing as filtration and the use of sulfur is very low” (Slow Wine 2019)

My name is Caterina Carli, and I was born in the same year as il Colle. My job is to make wine, but my passion lies in the vineyards. I dedicate most of my work to the vine itself, as I am convinced that everything depends on a healthy birth, followed by the most natural care throughout the growth phase. I really like Sangiovese, even more so in its typical Montalcino variety. It never fails to pay back the attention it received by giving me a Brunello that can stand the test of time with harmony, balance, elegance and intensity.

Grape variety: 100% Merlot

Fermentation: Indigenous yeast in stainless steel tank

Ageing: 10 years in Slavonian oak barrels

Production: 2,800 bottles

My father had chosen to plant Merlot vines in the late 1990s. Since I am not a big fan of this variety, I just opted to have fun watching it grow. Our Come Se (As If) is left to age for a long time in oak barrels, in strict purity, until it loses what I like the least about Merlot: an exaggerated boldness, an overbearing masculinity that risks getting boring after the first glass. But “time is a gentleman”, you know, and I naturally wait until I can get a wine that brings us back to the Montalcino area. Over the years, it tends to lose its toughness and eventually acquires a curious, refined elegance. AS IF … it was a woman!

Garnet red colour with bright reflections. Tertiary notes are predominant to the nose, liquorice in particular, immediately followed by tobacco. Floral notes such as violet are noticeable to the nose at a later stage, eventually crowned by fruity scents, plum in particular. The palate is sapid, with a defined and well-balanced suite of tannins. It leaves the mouth dry with a spicy aftertaste due to the long ageing in oak barrels. A Long-lasting bottle indeed. If paired with a meal, I would recommend consuming within 15 years. For meditation purposes, it can really last for decades.
