Hand-harvested grapes from the balanced 2020 vintage—marked by cool conditions yielding concentrated yet vibrant fruit—undergo whole-bunch pressing with oxidation and settling, followed by spontaneous barrel fermentation (10% new French oak and amphorae) and 10-12 months' sur lie aging for integration. Committed to sustainable viticulture since 2004 under Craig and Anne Wessels, this flagship wine yields a pale straw wine with green highlights and remarkable harmony.

Tasting Notes An elegant, balanced white with citrus vibrancy and subtle leesy depth, reflecting Hemel-en-Aarde’s maritime terroir. On the palate, it is medium-bodied and precise, with perky acidity, succulent texture, and flavors of spiced white tea, lemon rind, and salted caramel, leading to a long, stylish finish.

Awards and Accolades The 2020 Ava Marie earned 95 points from Christian Eedes for its structured intensity and beautiful balance, and 93 points from Vinous for its expressive seduction and energetic acidity.

Serving and Cellaring Serve at 10-12°C with 20-30 minutes of chilling to accentuate aromas.
