La Cerbaiola Salvioni Brunello di Montalcino Italy 2009
(Wine Advocate Score 92+) From Giulio Salvioni’s La Cerbaiola estate, the 2009 Brunello di Montalcino is a fantastic wine with an impressive degree of darkness and broad aromas of Indian spice and ripe fruit. The 2008 Brunello presents a more voluptuous style than is customary with the tradition-minded Salvioni. The wine shows a good degree of baby fat that should serve it well as it ages over the next decade or longer.
Along with Soldera and Biondi-Santi, Salvioni / La Cerbaiola is considered by many as one of the top three Brunello producers. La Cerbaiola was started in 1985 by Giulio Salvioni with the assistance by Attilio Pagli. Before joining La Cerbaiola, Attilio Pagli in Soldera under the mentorship from Giulio Gambelli. It is therefore not surprising to find La Cerbaiola’s Brunello resembles the style of Soldera offering great concentration, intensity and elegance. Annual production is extremely low at merely 15,000 bottles a year.
