2015 is our third year in biodynamics throughout the vineyard. The very favorable climatic conditions accentuate the benefits of this farming which respects and encourages the natural balances between the vine and its environment.  The mild and dry winter announced a beginning of constricting vegetative cycle. But winter precipitation, although moderate, was sufficient to ensure water reserves. Spring was ideal. The exceptionally low rainfall compensated for the absence of winter cold and contained the phytosanitary pressure. April and May are hot and dry, ensuring uniform bud burst and growth. We could not hope better conditions for the blooming which is done completely and very quickly. Until veraison, the vineyard takes full advantage of sunny weather. The setting is fast and complete. The sanitary condition of the foliage and grapes is perfect. The heat wave episode of late June and early July causes an early water deficit that quickly triggers veraison. The few rains at the end of July arrive at the perfect moment to avoid any blockage and start the ripening of the grapes. With sunny days and cool nights, maturation is slow, regular and complete. These conditions are maintained in the late season and provide us with the attitude to harvest each of our parcels at its optimum maturity.

Ch. Durfort-Vivens was ranked as Second Classified Growth in the 1855 Bordeaux Classification.  The wine is noted for its especially high percentage of Cabernet Sauvignon, over 90% in many vintages.  Ch. Durfort-Vivens changed to biodynamic farming practices and certified in 2016.

The vineyards of château Durford-Vivens are cultivated on 3 administrative areas : Margaux, Cantenac and Soussans.  The soil is made of hilltops of deep, poor gravels and so that it is perfectly draining, which favours a deep rooting of the plants and consequetly the concentration of the fruit.  Certified as biodynamic producer by the Demeter in 2016, Ch. Durfort-Vivens understood the need to respect and preserve the soil and subsoil of their vineyards.  Thanks to ploughing and a controlled use of manure, the microbiological life of the soil is respected, so doing revealing the exceptionnal terroir which is ours.

The cellar was renovated in 2012  by architect Fabien Pedelaborde,  the winery has been significantly enlarged ; the wines of château Durfort-Vivens are now vinified in wooden and concrete vats.

The grand vin Ch. Durfort-Vivens typically has over 90% of Cabernet Sauvignon with 18 months of ageing in 60% new French oak.  Le Relais de Durfort Vivens is the second wine and still has very high percentage of Cabernet Sauvignon (typically over 70%) and aged for 12 months with 20% new French oak.
