Intense, perfumed fruits with an underlying layer of lavender and spice. Dense dark cherry and blueberry fruit is perfectly interwoven with subtle nuances of white peach, spice and cinnamon. Full-bodied with great concentration, yet retaining soft supple tannins this suave wine has impeccable balance. Of all the Torbreck wines the Descendent needs patient cellaring. Its immediate charm can be enjoyed upon release with just a few hours breathing, but we recommend locking the other bottles away for at least five years to enjoy its full potential, cellaring for the next 15 years plus.

This single vineyard, located next to our winery block on Roennfeldt Road, was planted in 1994 with cuttings taken from our RunRig grower vineyards – some of the oldest genetic vine material in Australia. Shiraz is crushed straight on top of Viognier, which has been lightly pressed for RunRig, and the blend of fruit is then co-fermented. Maturation over 20 months is in barrels that have previously been used for RunRig.

Torbreck Vintners was founded by David Powell in 1994. The roots go back to 1992 when Dave, who was then working at Rockford, began to discover and clean up a few sections of dry-grown old vines. The Torbreck endeavour is based around the classic Barossa Valley varietals of Shiraz, Grenache and Mataro, and a love for the wines of France's Rhone Valley.

Torbreck pays tribute to these vineyards with minimal intervention, creating wines of richness, structure and length that age gracefully.

Torbreck has also been fortunate to have the opportunity to invest in the protection of some of the Barossa’s most precious vineyards, after accepting fruit from them over many years. The historic Hillside Vineyard at Lyndoch, The Laird Vineyard in the sub-region of Marananga and the Greenock Keller Vineyard owned by the Schultz family, are all now under the custodianship of Torbreck.
