(Wine Advocate Score 93+) Argiano is among the top producers in Tuscany and the estate's 2011 Brunello di Montalcino offers a glimpse into its formula for success. This is a balanced and forthcoming wine that puts equal emphasis on primary aromas of fresh berry and secondary aromas of oak spice and smoke. The two components suggest careful work in both the vineyard and the winery in what was not always an easy vintage. If Argiano experienced any hardship in 2011, you most certainly would not know, judging from this spectacular wine. I also would like to point out the quality achieved with the tannins and the brightness of the acidity. These characteristics suggest that this wine should hold longer than many of its peers.

Brunello is Argiano’s soul and identity: elegant, fine, and at the same time, body and long aging.

Grape:
100% Sangiovese

Soil:
Marl, ancient clay with high-level of limestone

From 280 to 310 meters a.s.l.

Vineyard:
From 60 to 12 years old

Training system:
Spurred Cordon, organic farming, small quantity of grapes per hectare

VINIFICATION:
Cold soaked prior to fermentation to extract color and aromatics. Spontaneous fermentation over the course of two weeks in temperaturecontrolled stainless steel tanks. Malolactic fermentation occurred naturally in cement tanks.

AGING:
Aging of about 30 months in Slavonian oak barrels of different capacity (10/15/30/50 Hl). Bottling ocurred in April/May during the most favorable moon phases. Long aging in bottle.

TASTING NOTES:
The nose is broad and complex, yet clean and fresh, with classic hints of red fruit mixed with notes of aromatic herbs and spices. In the mouth, the wine is broad, robust, and savory, with silky tannins and a long, fresh finish.

Presented with its Brunello at the Second Market and Exhibition of Typical Italian Wines 1935, Argiano was awarded two valuable certificates of recognitions: a winemaking attribution and a Gold Medal at the Brussels Food Fair 1932 for the production of prestigious table and dessert wines.

THe estate's Non Confunditur IGT is a Super Tuscan - a product of the unique combination of Tuscan and French grapes.  Since 2002, the wine has earned its place alongside the finest Tuscan blends; and is said to be a tribute to Argiano's prestigious and glorious past.

Argiano's philosophy: respect for nature and tradition in everyday work, so that its wine can fully express the wonderful land.  Working with the internationally acclaimed oenologist Giacomo Tachis - who helped in the creation of Sassicaia and highly awarded as Decanter's Man of the Year 2011 - Argiano is dedicated to apply the most effective and modern working methods; protect hand down the five centuries of wisdom and experience to those who succeed.  Argiano wines are both intense and elegant.
