(Wine Advocate Score 91)I tasted this wine from barrel, but because it will be released in September (or maybe earlier, I am told), I'm giving it a final score here. The 2017 Dolcetto d'Alba Vigna Scot is a bright and exuberant expression that is bursting with luscious primary fruit. The 2017 growing season, with its heat and dryness, was absolutely ideal for the robust Dolcetto grape. Some 13,400 bottles were produced. The wine will continue its six months of oak, but it won't do more than that because too much barrel can take away from the fruity freshness and the grape's natural sweetness. You get all of that here despite the reductive phase in which I tasted it. The alcohol can be high in this vintage, but it is well hidden in the case of this wine.

Dolcetto d’Alba parcel “Vigna Scot” (Dolcetto 100%) (on the hillside between Bricco Boschis and Monprivato/Codana).

Vinification: fermented with indigenous yeasts, macerated with submerged cap for 3-4 days.

Ageing: In large Slavonian oak botti of 50 hl for 6 months, then in cement tanks for 6 months.

Bottle Ageing: None before release to the market.

Organoleptic Characteristics: Medium-structured yet soft with typical aromas such as cherries and other fruits with a complex, floor bouquet. Although it is a wine made to be drunk relatively young, it still has aging potential for up to 5 years.

Since 1928, the Cavallottto family has owned the estate Tenuta Bricco Boschis. In 1946, they were the first cultivators in Castiglione Falletto to vinify all of their estate’s fruit. In 1948 they released the first bottling of their own BAROLO wine.

Cavallotto makes wines from two Barolo cru: the first is the Bricco Boschis from which comes the Barolo Bricco Boschis and the Barolo Riserva Bricco Boschis Vigna San Giuseppe; the other cru is the Vignolo, from which is obtained the Barolo Riserva Vignolo.
