Established by Etienne Grangeon in the 1950s, Domaine de Cristia originally started
with just over two hectares of Grenache which grew under the leadership of Alain,
his son, who joined the estate in 1963. Passionate about viticulture, he notably
contributed to the expansion of the estate by planting more grape varieties such as
Syrah and Mourvedre and thus creating the Cristia identity, based on his knowledge
and respect for its predominantly sandy soils. Baptiste and Dominique, who were
dubbed the “new superstars of Chateauneuf du Pape” by the Wine Advocate,
joined their father in 1999, with the priority to produce high quality wines. Today,
the three generations of winegrowers share their passion and their know-how on
the 42 hectares of land, covering appellations of Chateauneuf du Pape, Cotes du
Rhone Villages, Crozes Hermitage etc. Their oldest Grenache vines are over 100
years old, while their Syrah and Mourvedre are on average 55 years of age.
