Ferdinando Principiano is one of the exciting young winemakers in the Piedmont wine region.  He has an apprenticeship at famed Barolo wineries of Giacomo Conterno and Robert Voerzio.

Ferdinando Principiano has 10 ha of vineyards of mostly old vines in the south-eastern corner of the Barolo zone.  Ferdinando adopted an all-organic approach and rejected the use of artifical fertilisers and pesticides to encourage the health of vine.  Winemaking is very minimal and the use of sulphur is kept to a minimum.

The Nebbiolo Coste is made from a previously designated Barolo and now declassified to produce a Langhe Nebbiolo.  It is made in traditional Barolo style but all in stainless steel and selling at a fraction of the price.  The entry level Serralunga is a balanced and restrained wine showing good balance and intensity.  The Barolo 'Ravera' is made from the old Michet clone on 50 years old vines showing more intensity and grip than the entry level Serralunga.  Only about 160 cases produced annually.  The Barolo Boscareto is the flagship Barolo.  The vineyard is located in Serralunga d'Alba at the foot of Giacomo Conterno's Cascina Francia (home of the world famous Barolo Monfortino).  This is a wine of great character and complexity.
