Collection: Banshee

History Banshee Wines was founded in 2009 in Healdsburg, Sonoma County, California, by Noah Dorrance, Baron Ziegler, and Steve Graf—three friends passionate about crafting approachable, high-quality wines. Starting as a “garagiste” operation without vineyards, they sourced grapes from top Sonoma growers, releasing their first Pinot Noir in 2009. The name “Banshee” draws from Irish folklore, symbolizing the trio's bold vision. By 2013, they opened a tasting room in Healdsburg's historic downtown. In 2021, Banshee joined Foley Family Wines, expanding resources while maintaining its independent spirit. Today, under winemaker Noah Dorrance, it produces 50,000 cases annually, focusing on Sonoma's cool-climate sites.

Viticulture Philosophy Banshee sources grapes from certified sustainable vineyards across Sonoma County, including Russian River Valley, Sonoma Coast, and Carneros for Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, and Dry Creek Valley for Cabernet Sauvignon. The winery partners with growers practicing organic and sustainable methods, emphasizing low yields and hand-harvesting to capture terroir. Vineyards benefit from Sonoma's diverse microclimates—foggy mornings, warm afternoons, and cool nights—yielding balanced fruit with vibrant acidity and complex flavors. Banshee prioritizes long-term relationships to ensure consistent, high-quality sourcing.

Winemaking Techniques Banshee's winemaking is hands-on and minimal-intervention, focusing on transparency and texture. Pinot Noir and Chardonnay undergo native yeast fermentation, with Pinot aged in French oak (20-30% new) for 10-11 months to enhance structure without overpowering fruit. Chardonnay sees partial malolactic fermentation and lees stirring for creaminess. Cabernet Sauvignon is fermented in small lots and aged in French oak for bold yet refined profiles. Banshee avoids heavy filtration, producing wines that are fruit-forward, balanced, and food-friendly, with an emphasis on drinkability and elegance.
