Collection: Jeaunaux Robin
History Champagne Jeaunaux-Robin, a family-owned grower-producer in Talus-Saint-Prix within the Cote des Bar's Vallée de la Seine, was formally established in 1976 by Michel Jeaunaux and his wife Marie-Josée Robin. The family's viticultural roots date to the 19th century, with Michel's grandfather cultivating vines post-phylloxera. Starting with 2 hectares, the estate grew to 6.5 hectares by the 1990s. Their son Cyril joined in 1999 after oenology studies, followed by his wife Clémence in 2006. In 2010, they built a modern winery, transitioning to full estate bottling. Today, Cyril and Clémence manage the 6.5-hectare domaine, producing around 40,000 bottles annually with a focus on terroir-driven, small-batch Champagnes.
Viticulture Philosophy Jeaunaux-Robin farms 6.5 hectares across 20 parcels in Talus-Saint-Prix, emphasizing Pinot Noir (70%), Chardonnay (20%), and Meunier (10%) on Kimmeridgian marl and clay-limestone soils. Certified HVE (High Environmental Value) Level 3 since 2018 and practicing organic (in conversion), the estate prioritizes biodiversity with cover crops, minimal copper/sulfur treatments, and manual labor. Low yields (50-60 hl/ha) and high-density planting (8,000 vines/ha) ensure concentrated fruit, leveraging the Cote des Bar's warmer, continental climate for ripe yet fresh expressions.
Winemaking Techniques Cyril Jeaunaux employs parcel-by-parcel vinification to highlight site nuances. Grapes are hand-harvested, gently pressed, and fermented with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel or enamel-lined tanks, with partial malolactic fermentation. Wines age on lees for 3-7 years, with reserve wines in perpetual solera for consistency. The Éclats de Meulière series uses concrete eggs for texture, while Les Marnes Blanches ferments in oak. Low dosage (2-6 g/L) and minimal sulfur preserve purity, resulting in vibrant, mineral-driven Champagnes bottled unfined and unfiltered.
Critics and Journalist Praises Jeaunaux-Robin is celebrated as a Cote des Bar benchmark. The 2015 Les Grands Nots Millésime earned 94 points from Wine Enthusiast, praised for its “brioche, citrus, and chalky minerality” with “elegant mousse.” James Suckling awarded the Éclats de Meulière 93 points for its “pear, almond, and saline” complexity. Decanter lauds Cyril's “precise, terroir-focused” style, with the Blanc de Blancs scoring 92 points for finesse. Critics highlight the estate's rise among grower Champagnes, with consistent 90+ ratings for balance and aging potential.
