Collection: Kim Crawford

History Kim Crawford Wines was founded in 1996 by Kim and Erica Crawford in Auckland, New Zealand, initially as a virtual winery without its own vineyards or facilities. Kim, a winemaker with a passion for Sauvignon Blanc, gained rapid acclaim for his vibrant, fruit-driven wines. By 2000, the winery joined the Family of Twelve, a group of New Zealand's premier family-owned wineries. In 2003, Kim Crawford was acquired by Canada's Vincor International (now Arterra Wines Canada), and in 2011, it became part of Constellation Brands. The winery relocated production to Marlborough, leveraging the region's reputation for world-class Sauvignon Blanc. Today, under winemaker Anthony Walkenhorst, it remains a benchmark for New Zealand wines.

Viticulture Philosophy Kim Crawford sources grapes from certified sustainable vineyards across Marlborough's Awatere and Wairau Valleys, where gravelly, free-draining soils and a cool, maritime climate foster intense fruit flavors and crisp acidity. The winery focuses on Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, and Pinot Noir, prioritizing low yields and site-specific expressions. Sustainable practices, accredited by Sustainable Winegrowing New Zealand, emphasize biodiversity, minimal irrigation, and soil health to produce high-quality, terroir-driven grapes.

Winemaking Techniques Kim Crawford's wines are crafted to highlight varietal purity and vibrancy. Sauvignon Blanc, the flagship, is fermented in stainless steel with selected yeasts at cool temperatures to preserve zesty citrus and tropical notes, with no oak influence. Chardonnay may see partial oak aging for texture, while Pinot Noir is fermented with native yeasts and aged in French oak for complexity. Minimal intervention and precise blending ensure consistent, approachable wines with bright acidity and fruit-forward profiles.
