From Domaine du Gringet in France’s Savoie Ayze appellation, the La Bergerie 2022 is a refined white from blended parcels including Le Pré Milleret and Chez Reydet on south-facing slopes at the foot of the Mole mountain, featuring limestone screes and colorful marls at around 450 meters elevation with vines dating from 1947 to the 1980s. Hand-harvested grapes undergo whole-bunch pressing over 5-7 hours to oxidize and remove phenolics, followed by fermentation with indigenous yeasts in concrete eggs and sandstone jars, malolactic conversion, and maturation on lees without racking. Bottled unfined and unfiltered with no added SO2, this organic production yields a slightly cloudy pale straw wine with vibrant alpine purity.
Tasting Notes An elegant, mineral white with citrus and saline freshness, showcasing Savoie’s alpine terroir. The nose reveals pear, melon, mandarin, and hints of chalk and liquorice. On the palate, it is medium-bodied with fine-grained texture, modest acidity, saline minerality, and flavors of bright citrus, green herbs, and wet stone, leading to a broad, complex finish.
