From Concha y Toro in Chile’s Maipo Valley, the Don Melchor Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 is a refined blend of 92% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Cabernet Franc, 2% Merlot, and 1% Petit Verdot, sourced from 127 individual parcels in the iconic Puente Alto vineyard on ancient alluvial terraces with gravel and clay-loam soils at 650 meters elevation that impart power and elegance. Hand-harvested grapes from the exceptional 2021 vintage—marked by cool nights and warm days yielding concentrated yet balanced fruit—undergo fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, followed by 15 months' aging in French oak barrels (70% new) to enhance depth and finesse. This flagship, named after founder Don Melchor Concha y Toro, yields a deep ruby wine with garnet edges and profound intensity.

Tasting Notes An elegant, powerful red with ripe black fruit and refined structure, reflecting Puente Alto’s gravelly terroir. The nose reveals cassis, blackberry, dark chocolate, and hints of cedar, graphite, and tobacco. On the palate, it is full-bodied yet poised, with velvety tannins, vibrant acidity, and flavors of dark plum, espresso, and mineral earthiness, leading to a long, persistent finish.

Awards and Accolades The 2021 Don Melchor earned 99 points from James Suckling for its “extraordinary depth” and “silky, polished tannins,” and 98 points from Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate for its seamless texture and exceptional aging potential.

Serving and Cellaring Serve at 16-18°C with 60 minutes of decanting. Ideal with rib-eye steak, lamb rack, or aged Gouda. Enjoy now through 2045, developing profound leather and truffle nuances.
