From the renowned house of Jean-Luc & Paul Aegerter in Nuits-Saint-Georges, the Maranges Premier Cru 2023 is a standout Pinot Noir offering tremendous value for money. Hailing from Maranges, the southernmost appellation of Burgundy’s Côte de Beaune, this Premier Cru gem comes from the village’s steep, calcareous slopes in Sampigny-lès-Maranges. Maranges, spanning three communes—Cheilly-lès-Maranges, Dezize-lès-Maranges, and Sampigny-lès-Maranges—covers 166 hectares of vines, with seven Premier Cru sites. Known for its robust, affordable reds, it neighbors Santenay and has gained recognition for its quality terroir since earning AOC status in 1988.

This 2023 vintage, priced at a modest Bourgogne AOC level, delivers elite Premier Cru quality. It boasts a vibrant ruby hue, with aromas of spiced red fruits, cassis, and earthy hints. The palate is fresh and structured, revealing silky tannins, a touch of licorice, and a poised finish, reflecting 10-12 months in oak. Critics praise Aegerter’s Maranges bottlings: the 2019 Clos des Rois Premier Cru earned 92 points from Wine Enthusiast, lauded for its “ripe cherries, thyme, and sandy tannins,” while earlier vintages have been noted for their “powerful” and “fleshy” profiles.

Pair this steal with roasted poultry or spiced meats. Drink now or cellar through 2030—a rare chance to savor Burgundy’s hidden gem at an unbeatable price.
