Crafted by Maison Joseph Drouhin, a prestigious Burgundy house founded in 1880, the 2023 Beaune 1er Cru Grèves is a pure Pinot Noir sourced from the Grèves vineyard, a premier cru site in the northern part of Beaune, Côte de Beaune, at approximately 220-260 meters elevation. The vineyard’s gravelly limestone soils, rich in iron oxide, contribute to the wine’s structure and finesse. Grapes are hand-harvested, partially destemmed, and fermented with indigenous yeasts in open-top vats to enhance aromatic purity, followed by 14-18 months of aging in French oak barrels (20% new) to balance fruit expression with subtle oak integration. This biodynamic approach, certified since 2009, captures the 2023 vintage’s exceptional ripeness and balance, shaped by a warm growing season that yielded concentrated, high-quality fruit. The result is a wine of refined elegance and depth, reflecting Drouhin’s commitment to terroir-driven winemaking and the Grèves vineyard’s historic prestige.

Tasting Notes

This Pinot Noir exhibits a vibrant ruby hue with aromas of red cherry, wild strawberry, and rose petals, accented by hints of earth, spice, and subtle graphite. On the palate, it is medium-bodied and silky, offering flavors of red berries, black tea, and delicate minerality, supported by fine, velvety tannins, bright acidity, and a long, floral-infused finish.
