Crafted by Maison Joseph Drouhin, a distinguished Burgundy house founded in 1880, the 2023 Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Procès is a pure Pinot Noir sourced from the Les Procès vineyard, a premier cru site in the southern sector of Nuits-Saint-Georges, near the town and adjacent to the Pruliers vineyard at approximately 250 meters elevation. Maison Joseph Drouhin owns nearly half of this 0.37-hectare plot, characterized by deep, well-drained soils with due east exposure and a mild incline, contributing to the wine’s structure and elegance. Hand-harvested grapes undergo fermentation with indigenous yeasts in open-top vats, with some whole bunches included, followed by 14-18 months of aging in French oak barrels (20% new) to balance fruit purity and complexity. This biodynamic approach, certified since 2009, captures the 2023 vintage’s exceptional generosity—marked by one of Burgundy’s hottest years, yielding ripe, high-quality fruit with smooth, complex palates—resulting in a wine of depth and finesse.

Tasting Notes

This Pinot Noir displays a deep garnet hue with aromas of cherry jelly, balsam, and cedar, accented by hints of spice and subtle gamey touches with age. On the palate, it is medium-bodied and velvety, offering flavors of ripe red and black berries, supported by firm yet refined tannins, vibrant acidity, and a long, flavorful finish evoking fruit syrups and spice infusions.

Awards and Accolades
