This Spätlese Sweet bottling comes from the Wehlener Sonnenuhr vineyard, one of the Mosel’s most renowned steep, south‑facing sites on weathered slate, prized for producing highly aromatic, long‑lived Rieslings. In 2023, late‑harvest (Spätlese) grapes at high ripeness were vinified in a classic sweet style, capturing the vineyard’s combination of ripe fruit, finesse and slate‑driven minerality.
Carefully selected grapes are hand‑picked, gently pressed and fermented at cool temperatures, with fermentation stopped to preserve substantial natural grape sugar. Maturation on fine lees smooths the texture and integrates sweetness and acidity, resulting in a wine that is opulent yet balanced, with no hard edges and a persistent, refined finish.

Awards and Accolades
The 2023 Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Spätlese holds an aggregated quality rating of around 93% on major wine databases, placing it among the stronger Mosel Spätlese releases of the vintage. In line with earlier vintages that have earned low‑ to mid‑90s scores from leading critics, it is praised for its succulent palate, confident sweetness and harmonious balance of fruit, acidity and minerality.
Serving and Cellaring
Serve at 8–10°C in small to medium white‑wine glasses, allowing a few minutes in the glass for its honeyed and tropical nuances to unfold. This sweet Spätlese pairs particularly well with Thai or other moderately spicy Asian dishes, blue or washed‑rind cheeses, fruit‑based desserts and foie gras, and it can be cellared for 15–20 years to develop notes of dried apricot, caramel and petrol while retaining freshness.
