(Wine Advocate Score 92) Hints of maple syrup join with chocolate and vanilla on the nose (that's the oak talking), backed up by masses of dark, plummy fruit in the 2018 Blue Eyed Boy Shiraz. Full-bodied, concentrated and intense, it's dense and rich—a dark-chocolate cake of a wine, with layers of black cherries and creamy ganache, ending in a long, plush finish. This won't be for everyone—I'm not sure I'd want to drink more than a glass or two of it—but it's impressive nonetheless.

The Blue Eyed Boy is dense in colour with vibrant dark purple hues. A complex, alluring and lifted nose of blueberry, fresh plum, and hints of mocha cream leap from the glass. Powerful yet delicate, the wine voices luscious layers of fresh berries, aniseed spice and a finishing note of chocolate cream. Generous and dynamic layers allow the subtle tannins to create a seamless finish and great length.

The grapes were grown on the Coppermine Road, Gateway, Long Gully Road and Mollydooker Home vineyards in McLaren Vale and the Joppich Vineyard in Langhorne Creek. Barrel fermented and matured in 100% American oak, using 54% new and 46% one year old barrels.
