Fresh Cherries, Crushed Roses, Silky Tannins, and Alpine Vibrancy

The 2022 Travaglini Coste della Sesia Nebbiolo is a bright, wonderfully approachable introduction to Alto Piemonte. Crafted from the estate's younger vines, it offers highly aromatic notes of fresh red cherries, raspberries, violet, and crushed rose petals. Medium-bodied, agile, and crisp, it delivers juicy red fruit framed by fine-grained tannins and vibrant mountain acidity, finishing with a clean, savory, and mineral-driven crunch.

Highlights

  • 100% Nebbiolo (locally known as Spanna) sourced from the youngest vineyards on the Travaglini estate, with vines aged between 5 and 15 years old.
  • Grown in the rocky foothills of the Monte Rosa range on ancient, iron-rich volcanic soils, which impart a signature savory minerality and bright tension.
  • Coste della Sesia DOC serves as Travaglini's more youthful, fruit-forward, and immediate expression of Nebbiolo, contrasting with the strictly structured, long-aged Gattinara DOCG.
  • Macerated for 12 to 14 days in temperature-controlled stainless steel, followed by 4 months resting in steel and 10 months of maturation in neutral, used Slavonian oak casks to gently round out the tannins without masking the primary fruit.
  • The 2022 vintage yielded a fresh, highly energetic wine that can be enjoyed immediately for its bright aromatics and agile mouthfeel.

Tasting Notes

Bright ruby red in the glass with delicate garnet reflections. The nose is immediate and wildly aromatic, jumping out with notes of fresh red cherries, raspberries, and crushed rose petals, accented by hints of white pepper, subtle licorice, and a distinct, iron-like earthy minerality. On the palate, it is light-to-medium-bodied, incredibly agile, and vibrant. Juicy red fruit is supported by fine-grained, silky tannins and zesty alpine acidity, leading into a clean, mouth-watering, and gently spiced finish.

Serving Suggestion

  • Temperature: Serve slightly cellar-cool at 15–17°C in Burgundy or Nebbiolo stemware to emphasize its freshness and floral perfume.
  • Decanting: Pop and pour, or allow 15 minutes of air in the glass. It pairs beautifully with lighter pasta dishes, wild mushroom risotto, assorted charcuterie, or roasted white meats. Optimal drinking window now through 2029.
