Terroir, History & Acclaim
Critical Recognition:
Wine Advocate 96 pts
James Suckling 97 pts
- 96 Points - (Stephan Reinhardt) Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: The 2019 Riesling Frédéric Emile is precise and savory on the nose, blending the ripe and intense fruit of the Geisberg with a rather coolish and purely mineral or rocky tone of the Osterberg (?) that is reminiscent of melting salts. Tight and with lots of tannins on the palate, this is a full-bodied, highly energetic and vivacious Riesling with a long and tensioned as well as complex finish that pairs the ripe and dense fruit with structural elements to create something new and impressive. It's very long and saline yet still too tight to be opened today. 14.1% stated alcohol. Tasted at Trimbach in November 2024.
- 97 Points - James Suckling: This great dry Alsace riesling has hugely generous, irresistible aromas of fresh and candied citrus fruit, together with white and yellow peaches. Very chalky and concentrated on the medium- to full-bodied palate. The very long, deeply structured finish makes it plain that this masterpiece is just beginning to give its best! From organically grown grapes. Drink or hold.
- Dual Grand Cru Terroir: Named in honor of Frédéric Emile Trimbach, this iconic cuvée is crafted exclusively from old vines grown on the steep, south-facing slopes of two Grand Crus in Ribeauvillé: *Geisberg* (limestone-sandstone) and *Osterberg* (marne-clay-limestone).
- Centuries of Family Tradition: Maison Trimbach has produced classic Alsace wines since 1626. Their uncompromising philosophy demands bone-dry winemaking and extended bottle aging in the cellar prior to release, ensuring ultimate elegance, balance, and aging power.
Highlights
- 100% Riesling harvested from old vines in the Grand Crus Geisberg and Osterberg in Ribeauvillé, Alsace.
- A radiant 2019 expression combining deep fruit density, laser-like acidity, and intense slate minerality.
- A world-renowned benchmark for bone-dry Riesling with extraordinary aging potential over 20+ years.
Tasting Notes
- Appearance: Luminous pale golden-yellow with bright green-tinted reflections.
- Nose: Intensely mineral and aromatic. It opens with complex notes of white peach, Meyer lemon, and lime zest, accompanied by smoked flint, wet stone, and subtle petrol nuances.
- Palate: Bone-dry, full-bodied, and electric. The entry delivers a concentrated wave of citrus and orchard fruit extract, instantly propelled by searing natural acidity and driving towards a long, mouth-watering, saline finish.
Serving Suggestion
- Temperature: Serve slightly cool at 10–12°C to allow its complex aromatics and mineral power to open fully.
- Decanting: Decanting for 30–45 minutes is recommended if opening early to let the tight acidity and flinty structure uncoil. Cellar-worthy through 2045+.
- Western Pairing: Pan-seared turbot, roasted lobster with herbs, veal cutlets in cream sauce, choucroute garnie, or goat cheeses.
- Asian Pairing: Steamed whole fish with ginger and scallions, butter-braised king prawns, Peking duck, or mild coconut curries.
