Collection: Ruggeri
History Ruggeri, located in Valdobbiadene, Veneto, Italy, was founded in 1950 by Giustino Bisol in collaboration with his cousin Luciano Ruggeri, after whom the winery is named. The Bisol family's viticultural roots extend to the 19th century, with historical references to “Case Bisoi” in the Cartizze area on ancient maps. Giustino Bisol, building on the legacy of his father Luigi and grandfather Eliseo, established Ruggeri as one of the earliest producers dedicated to sparkling wines in Valdobbiadene using the Charmat-Martinotti method. Today, the winery is managed by Paolo Bisol and his daughter Isabella, maintaining a focus on Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore DOCG.
Viticulture Philosophy Ruggeri sources grapes primarily from the steep hills of Valdobbiadene, including the prestigious Cartizze cru, where it processes a significant portion of the area's production. The winery collaborates with long-term growers in the “Golden Triangle” of Santo Stefano, San Pietro di Barbozza, and Saccol, emphasizing high-quality Glera grapes from hillside vineyards with favorable exposures and mineral-rich soils. Sustainable practices and meticulous grape selection prioritize terroir expression, freshness, and elegance in the challenging, labor-intensive terrain.
Winemaking Techniques Ruggeri specializes in the Charmat-Martinotti method, with secondary fermentation in autoclaves to preserve aromatic intensity. Techniques include extended lees aging beyond standard requirements—such as for Vecchie Viti from old vines and Giustino B.—to enhance complexity. Innovations like the Cinqueanni, with 48 months on lees, and low-dosage styles demonstrate a commitment to evolving Prosecco Superiore. Separate pressing lines ensure parcel integrity, yielding wines with fine perlage, floral-fruity profiles, and balanced structure.
Critics and Journalist Praises Ruggeri is acclaimed for elevating Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore, uniquely earning Tre Bicchieri from Gambero Rosso nine times. Wines like Giustino B. and Vecchie Viti consistently score 90+ points from James Suckling, Wine Spectator, and Decanter, praised for elegance, minerality, and complexity. Critics highlight Ruggeri's role in showcasing Prosecco's potential beyond basic styles, with awards affirming its status as a reference producer in the DOCG.
