(Wine Advocate Score 93+) The 2013 Barolo Castiglione is a terrific success story. This is the estate's bread and butter Barolo. Fruit is sourced throughout the Castiglione Falletto township. The wine is consistent and steady, offering amazing value and quality with each new release. The nose is generous and full. It imparts fresh fruit and dark cherry aromas with tar, smoke and licorice at the back. Evident structure gives the wine a firm backbone and will carry it through the next decade of cellar aging.

The grapes are selected from small vineyards spread in the Barolo region. The vines are between 9 and 42 years old, planted in a clay-limestone soil. All the different crus are vinified and aged separately with slightly different processes to underline the singular characteristics of each parcel and terroir. Fermentation occurs in stainless steel with daily cap submersion for extraction of flavor and color. The wine is aged for roughly 30 months in oak casks and barriques; all parcels are then carefully blended before bottling.
