Expert Tasting Notes & Estate Reputation
- 94 Points – James Suckling: "A very refined red with berries, chocolate and walnuts. Full body and a round, juicy texture. Spicy and salty. Delicious already. Needs two or three years to come together. Second wine of Château Montrose."
- The Majestic Terroir of Saint-Estèphe: Formed in 1815, Château Montrose represents the peak of architectural power in Bordeaux's northern Médoc. Sourced from the exact same single-block gravel terrace overlooking the Gironde estuary as the Grand Vin, La Dame de Montrose is crafted with the absolute same meticulous standard. Because the river acts as a thermal mirror, cooling the grapes during hot spells and protecting them from frost, the estate yields a blend of legendary longevity. By using a higher percentage of Merlot in the blend, La Dame is engineered to be approachable much earlier than its formidable sibling, while retaining the signature graphite spine and noble elegance of Montrose.
Highlights
- A classic left-bank assembly composed of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 41% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc, and 1% Petit Verdot.
- Grown entirely on the deep, iron-rich alluvial gravel soils of Château Montrose's estate plots, enjoying natural drainage and prime estuary ventilation.
- Aged with elite precision for 12 months in fine French oak barrels (30% brand-new wood) to lock in noble structure and tertiary cedar notes.
Tasting Notes
- Appearance: Deep, opaque ruby-purple with a bright garnet rim.
- Nose: Aristocratic, savory, and complex, opening with focused aromas of fresh blackcurrant, dark plum, and dried blueberry, layered seamlessly with graphite pencil shavings, cold tobacco leaf, damp earth, and a touch of wild cedar wood.
- Palate: Dry, full-bodied, and beautifully architectural. Concentrated layers of dark forest fruits and cocoa paste saturate the mid-palate, instantly driven forward by a clean, balanced vein of mineral acidity. The texture is deep and remarkably polished, heavily supported by firm, powdery tannins that have melted into the fruit core before drawing into a long, persistent, graphite-flecked finish.
Serving Suggestion
- Temperature: Serve at room temperature between 16–18°C. Keeping it slightly cool frames its dense fruit focus and prevents the classic left-bank structure from showing any heat.
- Decanting: As a perfectly cellared 2015 vintage currently resting right in its sweet, prime drinking window, a 30-to-45 minute decant is highly recommended to let the deep tobacco and graphite aromatics open up completely. Built to cellar nicely through 2035–2040.
- Western Pairing: Slow-roasted rack of lamb with rosemary, prime dry-aged ribeye steaks with truffle butter, roasted game birds, or slow-cooked beef stews.
- Asian Pairing: 柱侯牛腩煲 (Braised Beef Brisket and Tendon Pot), 北京烤鴨 (Peking Roasted Duck), or 蔥爆羊肉 (Sautéed Lamb with Scallions).
