From Barone Ricasoli, Italy's oldest family-owned winery founded in 1141 in the Chianti Classico DOCG, the Castello di Brolio Chianti Classico Gran Selezione 2021 is a refined blend dominated by Sangiovese (80%) with Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, sourced from the historic Castello di Brolio vineyards on limestone-rich alberese soils at 280-450 meters elevation that impart intensity and elegance. Hand-harvested grapes from the balanced 2021 vintage—marked by moderate conditions yielding concentrated yet vibrant fruit—undergo fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, followed by 18 months' aging in French oak barriques (30% new) and large Slavonian oak casks to foster integration and depth. This flagship expression emphasizes sustainable viticulture, yielding a deep ruby wine with garnet edges and harmonious poise.

Tasting Notes An elegant, structured red with ripe red fruit and refined spice, reflecting Chianti Classico’s limestone terroir. The nose reveals cherry, violet, graphite, and hints of licorice, tobacco, and balsamic herbs. On the palate, it is full-bodied yet refined, with velvety tannins, bright acidity, and flavors of dark plum, mineral earthiness, and subtle oak, leading to a long, persistent finish.

Awards and Accolades The 2021 Castello di Brolio earned 96 points from James Suckling for its layered fruit and elegant structure.

Serving and Cellaring Serve at 16-18°C with 60 minutes of decanting to unfold aromas. Ideal with roasted game, truffle-infused dishes, or aged cheeses. Enjoy now through 2040, developing greater leather and earthy complexities over time.
