From Barone Ricasoli, the historic estate founded in 1141 in Italy’s Chianti Classico region, the Chianti DOCG 2023 is a refined 100% Sangiovese sourced from estate vineyards across the Gaiole in Chianti area on limestone-clay and galestro soils at 300-450 meters elevation that impart vibrancy and structure. Hand-harvested grapes from the balanced 2023 vintage—marked by moderate conditions yielding concentrated yet fresh fruit—undergo fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, followed by 9-12 months’ aging in large oak casks to preserve purity and enhance approachability. As pioneers of the Chianti formula since 1872, this production yields a ruby wine with cherry edges and lively intensity.
Tasting Notes An elegant, fruit-forward red with vibrant cherry and subtle herbal freshness, reflecting Chianti's limestone-clay terroir. The nose reveals red cherry, wild strawberry, violet, and hints of licorice and Mediterranean herbs. On the palate, it is medium-bodied and harmonious, with fine tannins, bright acidity, and flavors of juicy red fruit, spice, and a touch of minerality, leading to a clean, persistent finish.
Awards and Accolades The 2023 Chianti DOCG earned 90 points from James Suckling for its fresh fruit and balanced structure.
Serving and Cellaring Serve at 14-16°C with 30 minutes of decanting to enhance aromas. Ideal with pasta with tomato sauce, grilled poultry, or aged cheeses. Enjoy now through 2030, developing subtle earthy nuances over time.
