Critical Recognition
-
98 Points - James Suckling: Black cherries and blueberries with walnut and lavender undertones. Medium body with very fine tannins that run the length of the wine and caress every inch of your palate. Fresh and vivid. A wine for the cellar, but already fantastic to taste. Best after 2027.
-
93 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate:
The Tenuta Luce 2019 Brunello di Montalcino carries a good amount of oak spice with campfire ash, forest floor, dried cherry, cassis, rye bread and something floral like a hydrangea or pressed rose. There is a balsamic note as well with Sambuca or aniseed. This is a medium to full-bodied Brunello (with 35,000 bottles made) that shows dried fruit flavors and a substantial 15% alcohol pull on the lengthy finish.
Highlights
- 100% Sangiovese sourced exclusively from estate parcels located on the south-western slopes of Montalcino at 350–420 meters elevation.
- Grown on galestro (schistose clay) and sandstone soils that foster deep aromatic intensity, natural acidity, and refined structural tannins.
- Aged for at least 24 months in traditional large Slavonian oak casks with French oak tonneaux, harmonizing classical Brunello austerity with modern elegance.
- Produced by Tenuta Luce under the vision of Lamberto Frescobaldi.
- From the landmark 2019 Montalcino vintage; prime drinking window 2026 through 2045+.
Tasting Notes
Deep ruby-red with brilliant garnet reflections, it opens with pure, commanding aromas of ripe black cherries, wild blueberries, and redcurrant, seamlessly layered with dried lavender, campfire ash, walnut husk, sweet pipe tobacco, and forest loam. The palate is full-bodied, multi-layered, and velvety, carrying concentrated dark berry fruit across a framework of architectural, ultra-fine tannins and a vibrant vein of mountain acidity, concluding on an expansive, savory, and mineral-laden finish with remarkable length.
Serving Suggestion
- Temperature: Serve at 16–18°C in large Brunello or Bordeaux stemware.
- Decanting: Decant for 1.5 to 2 hours before serving to let its fine-grained tannins and deep aromatic complexity unfurl. Prime drinking window 2026 through 2045+.
