From Barone Ricasoli, the historic estate founded in 1141 in Italy’s Chianti Classico region, the Colledilà Chianti Classico Gran Selezione DOCG 2021 is a refined 100% Sangiovese sourced from a 10-hectare single vineyard in the Brolio zone of Gaiole in Chianti, featuring pure galestro (schistous clay) soils at 380 meters elevation that impart exceptional concentration and mineral tension. Hand-harvested grapes from the outstanding 2021 vintage—marked by cool nights and steady ripening yielding rich yet balanced fruit—undergo fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, followed by 24 months’ aging in 500-liter tonneaux (30% new) to foster integration and depth. As one of the estate’s flagship Gran Selezione crus, this production yields a deep garnet wine with vibrant intensity and majestic aging potential.
Tasting Notes An elegant, powerful red with concentrated dark fruit and refined minerality, reflecting Chianti Classico's galestro terroir. The nose reveals black cherry, ripe plum, violet, and hints of graphite, licorice, and toasted oak. On the palate, it is full-bodied and seamless, with velvety tannins, bright acidity, and flavors of dark berries, espresso, and chalky minerality, leading to a long, harmonious finish.
Awards and Accolades The 2021 Colledilà Chianti Classico Gran Selezione earned 96 points from James Suckling for its opulent fruit, polished structure, and exceptional balance.
Serving and Cellaring Serve at 16-18°C with 60-90 minutes of decanting to unfold aromas. Ideal with roasted lamb, beef Wellington, or aged cheeses. Enjoy now through 2045, developing profound leather and truffle complexity over time.
