Ripe Wild Berries, Orange Zest, Wild Thyme, and High-Altitude Limestone Finesse

The 2021 Bendito Destino "La Sequera" is a rare, single-vineyard red wine from ancient bush vines in Peñafiel (Ribera del Duero). Sourced from the historic, high-altitude "La Sequera" plot characterized by stark white limestone soils, this low-intervention cuvée resurrects traditional field-blend methods by co-fermenting Tinto Fino alongside ancient white and red local varieties. Soaring aromas of wild red cherries, black raspberries, orange peel, wild thyme, and crushed limestone dust lead into a medium-bodied, crystalline palate framed by fine, chalky tannins and an energetic, mineral-driven finish.

Terroir & Winemaking Craft

  • The "La Sequera" Limestone Terroir: Sourced entirely from the historic, high-altitude "La Sequera" paraje near Peñafiel (Ribera del Duero). The soil is dominated by thin, dry, white chalky limestone, conferring vertical tension, high natural acidity, and laser-focused mineral drive.
  • Artisanal Micro-Vinification: Hand-harvested from century-old bush vines and co-fermented whole-cluster using native yeasts in neutral vessels, then matured gently in seasoned French oak barrels. Terry Kandyna's minimalist approach allows the stark limestone terroir to shine without oak distortion.

Highlights

  • Single-vineyard field blend from old bush-trained vines in Peñafiel, Ribera del Duero.
  • A radiant 2021 release packed with wild red cherries, black raspberries, orange peel, thyme, and chalky minerality.
  • Crafted by Terry Kandyna (Bendito Destino), offering 10 to 20+ years of cellar evolution.

Tasting Notes

  • Appearance: Deep, translucent ruby-garnet with brilliant crimson reflections.
  • Nose: Complex, lifted, and mineral. It opens with aromas of wild red cherries, sour strawberries, and pomegranates, accompanied by orange zest, wild thyme, rockrose, and crushed white chalk.
  • Palate: Dry, medium-bodied, and chiseled. The entry brings a pure wave of red fruit sap that flows across a chalky mid-palate, held together by fine-grained tannins and electric limestone acidity into a long, mineral finish.

Serving Suggestion

  • Temperature: Serve slightly cool at 14–16°C to highlight its fresh berry acidity and chalky mineral tension.
  • Decanting: A 30-to-45 minute decant is recommended if enjoying young. Best enjoyed now through 2041+.
  • Western Pairing: Roasted leg of lamb, pan-seared duck breast, roasted pork loin with herbs, or wild mushroom risotto.
  • Asian Pairing: Peking duck, Korean braised short ribs (Galbi-jim), Taiwanese braised pork belly, or Cantonese roast goose.
