Vineyard & Estate Background
- 89-90 Points Star Rating ★★★★☆ – Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy "The Bourgogne will have a few more months elevage. The purple colour is slightly more robust than the PTG. Several plots make up the blend, all below Volnay. The bouquet is more austere, evidently concentrated but less giving in perfume at the moment. Very concentrated raspberry fruit with a lot of structure, both tannins and acidity. Drink from 2025-2028. Tasted Oct 2023."
- The Regional Calling Card: Even at the Bourgogne regional level, Marquis d'Angerville treats the fruit with the same fastidious attention as their premier crus. The grapes are sourced from estate-owned regional plots lying directly adjacent to the Volnay boundary lines, where clay-limestone soils provide an ideal balance of fruit charm and clear regional tension.
- Biodynamic Viticulture: The vineyards are completely managed under certified biodynamic practices. This commitment guarantees healthy vines and balanced yields, resulting in clean fruit that preserves its native character without the need for artificial adjusting in the cellar.
Highlights
- 100% Pinot Noir estate-grown and hand-harvested from regional parcels right along the Volnay border.
- Farmed under strict certified biodynamic methods to support natural soil health.
- Aged traditionally in neutral French oak barrels to keep the primary red fruit pure, crisp, and completely unmasked.
Tasting Notes
- Appearance: Translucent, brilliant ruby red with bright violet margins.
- Nose: Fresh, fragrant, and expressive, opening with clear fruit aromas of juicy red cherry, wild raspberry, and a light trace of pomegranate skin, pinned against soft undertones of red florals and light potting earth.
- Palate: Dry, light-to-medium-bodied, and remarkably fluid. A charming entry of ripe red berries moves into a smooth mid-palate with an accessible, fine-grained tannic texture. A steady line of fresh acidity supports the clean, dry, and balanced finish.
Serving Suggestion
- Temperature: Serve slightly cool at 15–16°C. Keeping it cellar-cool focuses the red fruits and highlights the fresh, vibrant acidity.
- Decanting: A brief 15-to-20 minute decant helps the fresh aromatics focus, though it is approachable right out of the bottle. This Bourgogne Rouge is built for early pleasure but will hold nicely in a cellar for the next 3–5 years.
- Western Pairing: Roast chicken with herbs, simple charcuterie boards, pan-seared pork medallions, or light mushroom pastas.
- Asian Pairing: Soy Sauce Chicken (豉油雞), Cantonese Roast Duck (明炉燒鴨), or stir-fried noodles with pork and scallions.
