Rich, Energetic, and a Masterclass in Meursault Balance

Domaine Patrick Javillier’s iconic Cuvée Tête de Murger is widely regarded as a benchmark village-level Meursault that easily performs at Premier Cru levels. A brilliant masterstroke of blending, it marries the fat, nutty opulence of the Casse-Têtes vineyard with the stony, mineral precision of the Les Murgers de Limozin block. The 2024 vintage showcases this balance spectacularly, opening with a complex bouquet of white peach, citrus blossoms, hazelnut, and crushed stones. Medium-to-full-bodied and vibrant, it bursts across the palate with concentrated orchard fruit, seamlessly framed by subtle French oak and a driving, incredibly tense mineral finish.

Terroir, History & Acclaim

Critical Recognition:
Burghound [93] pts
Jasper Morris [90-93] pts
  • 93 Points Outstanding Top value - Allen Meadows' Burghound "A perfumed and highly expressive nose freely proffers its aromas of the essence of white fleshed fruit, green apple, wet stone, petrol and a plethora of floral elements. There is again excellent mid-palate density to the sappy and powerful medium-bodied flavors that possess an almost aggressive minerality on the superbly long finale. This is a knockout and it's extremely rare to find this level of quality at the villages-level - if you can find it, buy it."
  • 90-93 Points ★★★★☆ – Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy "Mid lemon yellow. The bouquet suggests intensity to follow without really giving up much detail. This has the most structure of all the Javillier Meursaults, ripe apple with a certain crunch. Pure white fruit at the back of the palate with some candied citrus also at the finish. The most imposing of the Meursaults. Drink from 2029-2035. Tasted Nov 2025."
  • The Concept of Tête de Murger: Patrick Javillier’s unique cuvée is named for its masterful assemblage. It combines fruit from the hillside site of Casse-Têtes (famous for its lean, high-tension stone profile) and the bottom-slope site of Les Murgers de Limozin (bordering the 1er Cru Genevrières, celebrated for its rich, broad, and classical Meursault weight). The combination mimics the complete architecture of a top Premier Cru.
  • Artisanal Vinification: The Javillier philosophy centers on extended lees contact. The wine undergoes traditional primary fermentation in barrel before being racked into stainless steel tanks for an additional year of maturation on its fine lees. This rigorous technique seamlessly integrates the oak components, preserving an extraordinarily crisp acidity while unlocking complex, nutty nuances.

Highlights

  • 100% Chardonnay sourced from two legendary, contrasting village-level vineyards in Meursault.
  • A highly collected "super-village" cuvée, celebrated for delivering the complexity and weight of a Premier Cru.
  • Crafted under the precise direction of Marion Javillier, maintaining the domaine's signature stylistic focus on purity and tension.

Tasting Notes

  • Appearance: Clear, bright straw-yellow core with brilliant white-gold reflections.
  • Nose: Intensely fragrant and beautifully classic. It opens with aromas of white peach, yellow apple, and Meyer lemon zest, interwoven with sophisticated hints of roasted hazelnut, toasted brioche, and crushed flint.
  • Palate: Bone-dry, medium-to-full-bodied, and deeply concentrated. The initial entry offers a generous, fleshy core of stone fruit and citrus oil, perfectly anchored by an electric, mineral-driven acidity. It builds focused power across the palate, concluding with a long, driving, and saline-laced finish.

Serving Suggestion

  • Temperature: Serve slightly cool at 11–13°C. Do not serve ice-cold, as the complex nutty, savory aromatics and rich concentration need a minor chill to properly breathe.
  • Decanting: A brief 20-to-30 minute decant will beautifully unravel its youthful tension. Built with remarkable structural integrity, it will cellar effortlessly over the next 8 to 12 years.
  • Western Pairing: Pan-seared veal medallions in chanterelle cream sauce, butter-poached lobster, roasted chicken with truffles, or rich seafood risotto.
  • Asian Pairing: Cantonese roasted goose, pan-fried prawns in superior soy sauce, or wok-fried lobster with ginger and scallions.
