Terroir, History & Acclaim
- 93–94 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: Wafting from the glass with aromas of red berries and plums mingled with vine smoke, spices and rose petals, the 2021 Latricières-Chambertin Grand Cru is medium to full-bodied, supple and seamless, with melting tannins, vibrant acids and a giving, perfumed profile that privileges sensuality over power.
- 90–93 Points - Allen Meadows (Burghound): A more elegant, and strikingly pure, if less spice-suffused nose speaks of essence of red cherry, discreet earth and a hint of forest floor trimmed in a whiff of wood. The delicious and vibrant middleweight flavors possess even better delineation and more obvious minerality on the youthfully austere finish that also reflects a hint of bitter pit fruit character. Lovely and understated in style.
- 92–94 Points - Jasper Morris (Inside Burgundy): Fairly dense crimson in colour. There is a solid weight of fruit on the nose, dark raspberry with some strawberry too. Some depth to this. A mix of mineral and floral for Jérôme while I find something earthier. Firm tannins at the finish but plenty of fruit to surround them. Drink from 2028-2036. Tasted Nov 2022 by Jasper Morris MW.
- The Latricières-Chambertin Terroir: Situated right next to Chambertin at the opening of the Combe Grisard. Cool air currents blowing from the combe give "la petite tricherie" its famously cool microclimate, yielding thin, stony soils over hard limestone that prioritize mineral transparency, tensile strength, and perfumed delicacy over brute mass.
- Faiveley Heritage Parcel: Faiveley owns 0.8 hectares planted with vines dating back to 1958. Handled with surgical precision, gentle extraction, and moderate new oak, the 2021 highlights pure, unadorned site expression and remarkable grace.
Highlights
- 100% Pinot Noir from Domaine Faiveley’s prized 0.80-hectare plot in Latricières-Chambertin Grand Cru.
- Consistently rated up to 96 points across Jasper Morris, Burghound, and Wine Advocate.
- A cool-toned, ethereal 2021 Grand Cru built to cellar gracefully for 15 to 25+ years.
Tasting Notes
Bright ruby-red with brilliant clarity, it opens with pure, lifted aromas of wild raspberries, redcurrants, and fresh rose petals, underlined by blood orange peel, forest floor, and crushed limestone. The palate is medium-bodied, silky, and crystalline, carrying crunchy red berry fruit through fine-boned, filigreed tannins and vibrant, mouth-watering acidity, culminating in a long, tensile, and mineral-etched finish.
Serving Suggestion
- Temperature: Serve at 15–17°C in wide Burgundy stems.
- Decanting: Decant for 1 hour if enjoying young. Prime drinking window 2028 through 2045+.
