Vibrant, Pure, and Expressively Mineral

Widely recognized as the absolute gold standard of the Givry appellation, Domaine François Lumpp crafts white Burgundies of stunning precision and Premier Cru weight. Sourced from the clay-limestone soils of "A Vigne Rouge" and "Crausot," the 2023 Crausot Blanc is a dazzling showcase of pure, cool-climate Chardonnay energy. It opens with an expressive, beautifully defined bouquet of white flowers, lemon zest, green apple, and wet stone minerals, subtly framed by elegant wood spice. Medium-bodied, vibrant, and strikingly clean on the palate, it balances a stony, mineral-driven core with ripe orchard fruits, concluding in a remarkably persistent, crisp, and mouth-watering finish.

Terroir, History & Acclaim

Critical Recognition:
Burghound [90-92] pts
  • 90-92 Points Sweet Spot Outstanding - Burghound (Allen Meadows): "This is aromatically quite similar to the Petit Marole with its mildly exotic nose of petrol, dried orchard fruit and petrol. The rich, full-bodied and generously proportioned medium-bodied flavors coat the palate with sappy dry extract while there is adequate supporting acidity to maintain the proper balance on the solidly powerful finale. A few years of keeping should help to add depth."
  • The Renowned "Crausot" Terroir: "Crausot" is widely considered one of Givry’s finest premier cru sites. Facing south-southeast, its limestone-dominant soils contain a high percentage of iron-rich red clay. This specific geologic makeup naturally delivers a white Burgundy that is strikingly aromatic, focused, and possesses a deeper mineral core than typical Côte Chalonnaise wines.
  • The Quality King of Givry: François Lumpp and his children, Pierre and Anne-Cécile, are legendary for single-handedly putting Givry on the map for elite Burgundy collectors. They farm their vines meticulously with organic practices, and their vinification is incredibly precise. The white wines are fermented and aged in French oak barrels (around 30% new) with zero battonage (lees stirring), preserving a crystalline tension and preventing any heavy or flabby elements.

Highlights

  • 100% Chardonnay hand-harvested from the estate's choice parcels within the premier cru Crausot vineyard.
  • Crafted by François Lumpp, widely celebrated as the absolute top winemaker in the Givry appellation.
  • A gorgeous crossover Burgundy, providing Côte d'Or-level complexity, precision, and drive at an outstanding value.

Tasting Notes

  • Appearance: Bright straw-gold with clear, brilliant platinum highlights.
  • Nose: Fresh, pure, and expressively stony. It displays lovely aromas of white peach, green apple, and white flowers, layered seamlessly with wet gravel, lemon rind, and a faint hint of toasted almond from the fine oak.
  • Palate: Bone-dry, medium-bodied, and remarkably vibrant. The entry is clean and chiseled, offering a focused core of Meyer lemon, citrus oils, and crunchy orchard fruit. High, zesty acidity keeps the palate extremely fresh, leading into a long, youthfully austere, and flinty-mineral finish.

Serving Suggestion

  • Temperature: Serve slightly cool at 10–12°C. Avoid serving it ice-cold, as a slightly warmer profile allows the mineral depth and elegant white flower aromatics to expand fully.
  • Decanting: A brief 20-minute decant is recommended if opening soon to let the tight-knit mineral structure unwind. It has the balance to cellar beautifully for 6 to 10 years.
  • Western Pairing: Roasted chicken with herbs, grilled sea bass with lemon, pan-seared scallops, or a creamy goat cheese tart.
  • Asian Pairing: Steamed scallops with garlic and glass noodles (蒜蓉粉絲蒸扇貝), wok-fried shrimp, or dim sum such as har gow (蝦餃).
