Terroir & Winemaking Reality
- The Sun-Drenched Terroir of La Brûlée: Appropriately named "the burned one" due to its warm, full-south exposure and intense solar heat absorption, *La Brûlée* sits on steep, stony limestone slopes in Givry. The shallow reddish soil yields small, concentrated Pinot Noir berries that deliver a darker, richer fruit spectrum and more muscular tannic frame than cooler neighboring sites.
- François Lumpp’s Benchmark Winemaking: Universally celebrated as the pinnacle producer of Givry, the Lumpp family practices meticulous organic-minded viticulture and strict hand-sorting. The grapes are 100% destemmed and undergo gentle cold maceration before natural fermentation, followed by aging in select French oak barrels to seamlessly frame the deep fruit weight and fine limestone minerality of the 2023 vintage.
Highlights
- 100% Pinot Noir estate-harvested from the distinguished La Brûlée Premier Cru vineyard in Givry.
- A radiant 2023 expression combining solar dark-berry richness, smoky spice, and structured limestone power.
- Crafted by François Lumpp, the undisputed benchmark domaine of the Côte Chalonnaise.
Tasting Notes
- Appearance: Deep ruby-purple core with vibrant crimson highlights at the rim.
- Nose: Intensely aromatic and warm. It opens with rich notes of black cherries, dark raspberries, and wild blackberries, underpinned by delicate touches of smoky tea leaf, sweet baking spice, and crushed limestone.
- Palate: Dry, medium-bodied, and mouth-coating. The entry brings a dense wave of ripe dark fruit sap supported by velvety, fine-grained tannins. Driven by a lively thread of natural acidity, it carries into a long, powerful, and mineral-accented finish.
Serving Suggestion
- Temperature: Serve slightly cool at 15–16°C. A gentle cellar-like chill focuses the rich dark berry fruit and keeps the structured tannins polished.
- Decanting: A 30-to-45 minute decant is recommended to allow the aromatics and tannic structure to unfold fully. Cellar-worthy over the next 8 to 12 years.
- Western Pairing: Roasted duck breast with cherry reduction, pan-seared venison chops, herb-crusted rack of lamb, or wild mushroom tarts.
- Asian Pairing: Peking duck, braised beef brisket, Cantonese barbecued pork (Char Siu), or five-spice roasted pork.
