Terroir, History & Acclaim
Critical Recognition:
Burghound 91-93 pts
- 91-93 Points (Sweet Spot / Outstanding) - Burghound (Allen Meadows): Moderate wood frames ripe and agreeably fresh aromas of plum, red and dark raspberry, violet and a lovely array of spice elements. I very much like the texture of the middleweight flavors even though they're not quite as dense, all wrapped in a refined, stony and highly complex finale. This is really very good and worth checking out.
- Givry’s Premier Cru Sweet Spots: Sourced from top mid-slope Premier Cru sites in Givry, these iron-rich, clay-limestone soils grant Pinot Noir a harmonious blend of dark berry purity and energetic mineral tension. The east-facing slopes ensure steady ripening, allowing the wine to maintain a light-footed structural elegance that rivals the Côte d'Or.
- François Lumpp’s Benchmark Winemaking: Universally revered as the gold standard of Givry, the Lumpp family practices meticulous organic-minded viticulture and strict hand-sorting. The grapes are completely destemmed and undergo cold maceration prior to natural fermentation, followed by careful aging in fine French oak barrels to preserve the transparent red fruit purity and refined tannin texture.
Highlights
- 100% Pinot Noir estate-harvested from prime Premier Cru plots in Givry.
- A crystalline, highly refreshing 2021 expression prized for its dark currant purity and limestone minerality.
- Crafted by François Lumpp, the undisputed benchmark domaine of the Côte Chalonnaise.
Tasting Notes
- Appearance: Bright, translucent ruby-red core with delicate violet flashes at the rim.
- Nose: Cool, airy, and delicately perfumed. It opens with pristine aromas of dark currants, fresh wild raspberries, and violet petals, underlaid by notes of crushed fennel, damp earth, and subtle wood spice.
- Palate: Dry, medium-bodied, and nicely detailed. The entry brings a vibrant wave of dark red berry sap that glides effortlessly across fine-grained, chiseled tannins. An energetic line of natural acidity carries into a long, mineral-driven, and highly refreshing finish.
Serving Suggestion
- Temperature: Serve slightly cool at 14–16°C. A gentle, cellar-like chill highlights the bright berry purity and protects its delicate floral aromatics.
- Decanting: A brief 20-to-30 minute decant is recommended if opening early to allow the wine's tension to relax in the glass. Cellar-worthy over the next 8 to 12 years.
- Western Pairing: Roasted duck breast with cherry reduction, pan-seared veal cutlets, herb-crusted pork tenderloin, or wild mushroom tarts.
- Asian Pairing: Peking duck wraps, Cantonese barbecued pork (Char Siu), soy sauce chicken, or delicate pan-fried pork dumplings.
