High-Altitude Precision, Crisp Green Apple, and Marine Salinity

The 2023 Domaine François Lumpp Givry Blanc "Teppe des Chenèves" is a vibrant, intensely mineral white Burgundy that showcases the remarkable potential of high-elevation sites in the Côte Chalonnaise. Sourced from a unique, highly stony limestone plot sitting at 400 meters elevation, this cuvée balances the sun-kissed generosity of the 2023 vintage with an electric, cool-climate backbone. It leaps from the glass with fresh aromas of green apple, juicy citrus peel, and white orchard blossoms, layered over subtle hints of white peach and crushed chalk. On the palate, it is light-to-medium-bodied, energetic, and beautifully focused, driving a wave of crisp orchard fruit across a lively spine of acidity into a long, mouth-watering, and distinctly saline finish.

Terroir, History & Acclaim

Critical Recognition:
Burghound 89-91 pts
  • 89-91 Points (Outstanding Top value) - Burghound (Allen Meadows): There is enough wood present to merit pointing out on the aromas of petrol, mineral reduction and high-toned citrus wisps. There is markedly better underlying tension if not nearly the same density on the palate of the medium weight flavors where the lingering and again nicely dry finish is shaped by bright citrus-tinged acidity. This is a very good villages and worth considering.
  • The High-Altitude Terroir of Teppe des Chenèves: Meaning "hilltop of the hemp fields," *Teppe des Chenèves* is a rare, elevated vineyard parcel sitting at 400 meters altitude. Its shallow, highly stony limestone soils offer outstanding natural drainage. The cool night breezes at this altitude allow the Chardonnay grapes to preserve razor-sharp freshness and tense minerality even during warmer growing seasons like 2023.
  • François Lumpp’s Benchmark Craft: Widely regarded as the premier producer in Givry, the Lumpp family handles this parcel with meticulous precision. Hand-harvested and gently pressed, the juice ferments with native yeasts in French oak barrels (around 30% new wood), building a subtle creamy texture that seamlessly balances the site's intense limestone drive.

Highlights

  • 100% Chardonnay estate-harvested from the high-altitude, stony Teppe des Chenèves vineyard in Givry.
  • Crafted by François Lumpp, universally recognized as the gold standard domaine of the Côte Chalonnaise.

Tasting Notes

  • Appearance: Pale straw-gold core with luminous watery-white flashes at the rim.
  • Nose: Fresh, high-toned, and expressive. It opens with vibrant notes of green apple, lemon oil, and white acacia flowers, underlaid with chalky minerality and a touch of subtle toast.
  • Palate: Bone-dry, light-to-medium-bodied, and energetic. The entry brings a sharp splash of citrus zest and tart white peach fruit that glides over a bed of tension-filled limestone acidity, finishing long, crisp, and intensely saline.

Serving Suggestion

  • Temperature: Serve slightly cool at 10–12°C. A fresh chill highlights the crisp citrus profile and maintains its thirst-quenching minerality.
  • Decanting: A brief 15-to-20 minute decant or simply pouring directly into generous white Burgundy glasses will allow the aromatics to open nicely. Drink now through 2030.
  • Western Pairing: Fresh oysters, pan-seared sea bass with lemon, goat cheese crostini, grilled trout, or light pasta in cream sauce.
  • Asian Pairing: Steamed fish with ginger and scallions, crystal shrimp dumplings (蝦餃), light sushi, or wok-fried greens.
