Wild Raspberry, Crushed Roses, Baking Spice, and Vosne-Adjacent Elegance

The 2021 Jacques Cacheux Nuits-Saint-Georges "Au Bas de Combe" is a beautifully perfumed and velvety Pinot Noir that effortlessly bridges the gap between two iconic Burgundian villages. Sourced from a highly prized lieu-dit situated directly on the border of Vosne-Romanée, this cuvée famously marries the robust, earthy structure of Nuits-Saint-Georges with the floral elegance and exotic spice of its neighbor. Benefiting from the cool, classic 2021 vintage and Patrice Cacheux's signature luxurious, destemmed winemaking style, it bursts with aromas of wild raspberry, dark cherry, crushed roses, damp earth, and toasted vanilla. On the palate, it is medium-bodied and energetic, framed by polished tannins, bright acidity, and a long, spice-laden finish.

Terroir & Domaine Craft

  • The "Au Bas de Combe" Terroir: This highly celebrated lieu-dit (named vineyard) is located at the extreme northern tip of Nuits-Saint-Georges, directly abutting the Vosne-Romanée border (just below 1er Cru Chaumes). Because of this geographical positioning, the deep clay-limestone soils produce a wine that leans heavily toward the floral perfume and finesse of Vosne, while maintaining the darker fruit and firmer tannic backbone characteristic of Nuits-Saint-Georges.
  • Voluptuous Winemaking Style: Patrice Cacheux is known for a rich, modern, and generous approach to winemaking. The grapes are 100% destemmed to ensure silky tannins and pure fruit expression. The wine is then matured in a high proportion of new French oak barrels, lending a polished, luxurious texture and exotic spice notes that integrate beautifully with the fresh, crunchy red fruit of the 2021 vintage.

Highlights

  • 100% Pinot Noir from "Au Bas de Combe," a premier lieu-dit on the Vosne-Romanée border.
  • The cooler 2021 vintage highlights the wine's vibrant red fruit purity and electric freshness.
  • Crafted by Patrice Cacheux in a plush, fully destemmed, and generously oaked style; built for 8–15 years of aging.

Tasting Notes

  • Appearance: Brilliant, translucent ruby-red with a youthful magenta rim.
  • Nose: Expressive, floral, and lifted. It opens with vibrant aromas of wild raspberry, tart cherry, and crushed rose petals, layered with damp earth, sandalwood, toasted vanilla, and baking spices.
  • Palate: Dry, medium-bodied, and energetic. The entry delivers a crisp wave of crunchy red fruit sap that flows across a finely textured mid-palate. Firm but polished tannins and bright natural acidity provide excellent tension, driving into a long, spiced, and floral finish.

Serving Suggestion

  • Temperature: Serve at 15–17°C in large-bowled Burgundy glasses to allow the oak and floral aromatics to unfurl.
  • Decanting: A 45-to-60 minute decant is recommended if opening in its youth to soften the youthful tannins. Best enjoyed from 2026 through 2038.
  • Western Pairing: Roasted duck breast with cherry reduction, pan-seared veal chops, wild mushroom risotto, or roasted root vegetables.
  • Asian Pairing: Peking duck, soy-sauce braised chicken, crispy skin roast pork (Siu Yuk), or stir-fried beef with mixed mushrooms.
