Deep, Velvety Fruit with Sophisticated Vosne Flavour

The 2022 Domaine Jacques Cacheux Nuits-Saint-Georges "Au Bas de Combe" is a highly unique, deeply satisfying red Burgundy that offers a fascinating crossover style. Thanks to its position right next to Vosne-Romanée, this wine avoids the tough, heavy structure often found in standard Nuits-Saint-Georges. Instead, it brings a beautiful, velvety texture and exotic spice. Driven by the sunny warmth of the excellent 2022 vintage, it bursts with aromas of ripe dark cherries, juicy blackberries, and fragrant violets, all mixed with hints of dark chocolate and forest floor. On the palate, it is medium-bodied and incredibly smooth, with rich fruit and refined tannins that make it look and taste like a premium village wine.

Terroir & Winemaking Reality

  • The Vosne-Adjacent Secret of Bas de Combe: The "Au Bas de Combe" lieu-dit is widely known as one of the best village-level plots in the entire Côte de Nuits. Located at the northern boundary of Nuits-Saint-Georges, it sits directly underneath the famous Premier Cru *Aux Boudots* and shares a direct border with Vosne-Romanée *Aux Réas*. Thanks to this elite position, the wine borrows the famous qualities of its neighbors—trading the typical rustic, firm grip of Nuits for the perfume, silken texture, and elegant spice of Vosne-Romanée.
  • Pascal Cacheux's Velvet Touch: Winemaker Pascal Cacheux manages this prized old-vine plot with high precision. To highlight the distinct crossover character of the vineyard, the grapes are completely destemmed to avoid any green or harsh elements. The wine is then aged carefully in choice French oak barrels. This slow aging framework rounds the deep dark fruit flavors, ensuring a smooth, seamless finish that perfectly captures the solar brightness of the 2022 vintage.

Highlights

  • 100% Pinot Noir harvested from the prestigious "Au Bas de Combe" plot, directly bordering the Vosne-Romanée line.
  • An absolute insider’s wine that delivers the aromatic lift and silkiness of a premium Vosne at a great value.
  • A beautifully concentrated, ripe expression that highlights the deep fruit power of the excellent 2022 Burgundy vintage.

Tasting Notes

  • Appearance: Deep, clear ruby-purple color with bright purple flashes at the rim.
  • Nose: Intensely fragrant, complex, and deeply fruited. It immediately opens with rich notes of dark cherries, ripe blackberries, and candied violets, neatly balanced by exotic spices, dark cocoa, and hints of forest underbrush.
  • Palate: Dry, medium-bodied, and beautifully velvety. The entry floods the palate with juicy black and red orchard fruits, held together by exceptionally smooth, fine-grained tannins. A fresh line of acidity cuts cleanly through the richness, balancing the solar weight of the vintage and leading into a long, polished, and beautifully balanced finish.

Serving Suggestion

  • Temperature: Serve slightly cool at 15–16°C. A gentle, cellar-like chill focuses the deep dark fruit and accentuates the elegant, spicy Vosne-like aromatics.
  • Decanting: A brief 30-minute decant is highly recommended if enjoying early. The deep fruit concentration and oak integration benefit from a little air to fully open up. This bottle has fantastic balance built to cellar beautifully through 2034+.
  • Western Pairing: Roasted duck breast, pan-seared venison fillets, slow-roasted lamb shanks, grilled pork chops with rosemary, or earthy mushroom risottos.
  • Asian Pairing: Peking duck with plum sauce, Cantonese barbecued pork (Char Siu), braised beef brisket, or wok-fried beef with black pepper.
