Crisp Orchard Fruit, White Flowers, Saline Minerality, and Vibrant Tension

Jane Eyre’s 2021 Santenay Blanc is a testament to resilience from a frost-ravaged vintage. This beautifully tension-driven Chardonnay offers delicate aromas of white flowers and crisp orchard fruit. With a mouth-watering, saline edge and vibrant acidity, it avoids heavy oak in favor of pure, racy energy, making it a brilliant, classic white Burgundy perfect for fresh seafood.

Critical Recognition

Jasper Morris MW 88 pts
  • 88 Points - Jasper Morris MW: One new barrel out of 4.5. Mid lemon yellow colour. This has a touch of reduction on top of a cheerful ripe fresh apple. Very lively behind, zestful as the acidity refreshes rather than agresses. Lime notes at the back. Drink from 2024-2026. Tasted Oct 2022 by Jasper Morris MW.

Highlights

  • 100% Chardonnay sourced from village-level parcels in Santenay, located in the southern Côte de Beaune.
  • 2021 was a historically demanding vintage defined by severe spring frosts, resulting in drastically reduced yields but producing white wines of exceptional classicism and bright acidity.
  • Grown on clay-limestone soils that naturally impart a striking saline minerality and structural cut to the wine.
  • Fermented with native yeasts and aged in French oak barrels (largely neutral) to preserve the wine's energetic, zesty profile without introducing heavy vanilla or toast.
  • Showcases Jane Eyre's signature restraint, favoring purity, terroir transparency, and tension over heavy oak or malolactic butteriness.

Tasting Notes

Pours a bright, pale lemon-gold in the glass. The nose is fresh and tightly focused, opening with inviting aromas of crisp green apple, white peach, and delicate spring blossoms, underpinned by a subtle flinty minerality. On the palate, it is racy and energetic, delivering a pure core of citrus and orchard fruit that is beautifully balanced by a mouth-watering, saline acidity. The finish is crisp, clean, and highly refreshing.

Serving Suggestion

  • Temperature: Serve at 50–54°F (10–12°C) in a standard white wine glass to preserve its tension and focus.
  • Decanting: No decanting necessary. Pair wonderfully with fresh oysters, grilled sea bass, or a bright goat cheese salad. Enjoy from 2024 through 2029.
