Pure Cherry, Tense Acidity, Fine Spices, and Fragrant Finesse

Crafted by micro-négociant Jane Eyre, this cuvée captures the ethereal, fragrant potential of Savigny's finest Premier Cru. Sourced from the eastern-facing slope of Aux Vergelesses, the 2023 is remarkably pale and intensely perfumed. Woven with pure sweet cherry, delicate red fruit, and subtle spice, it balances its light-bodied elegance with a tense, gently grippy finish. A gorgeous, transparent Pinot Noir favoring aromatic finesse over heavy concentration.

Critical Recognition

Jasper Morris MW 91 pts
  • 91 Points - Jasper Morris MW (Inside Burgundy): Fuller in colour, the ruby side of purple. While this also has a fine fragrance, there is a greater volume of fruit, so more satisfying in mouthfeel. A few more tannins, tiny berries on top of clay, explains the added density. Drink from 2027-2032. Tasted Dec 2024 by Jasper Morris MW.

Highlights

  • 100% Pinot Noir sourced from the upper-middle, eastern-facing slope of Aux Vergelesses, Savigny-lès-Beaune's most prestigious Premier Cru.
  • Grown on iron-rich clay and limestone soils that contribute to the wine's signature tension and subtle minerality.
  • Vinification favored delicate extraction and freshness, incorporating exactly 20% whole-bunch clusters.
  • Aged carefully with 20% new French oak before being racked and assembled into tank after harvest, producing a micro-cuvée of just three barrels (approx. 105 cases).
  • The 2023 vintage is marked by a strikingly pale color, lifted aromatics, and a highly perfumed character rather than dense extraction.

Tasting Notes

Pours a strikingly pale, translucent ruby. The nose is magnificently fragrant and pure, offering high-toned aromas of sweet cherry, wild red berries, and a brambly, spicy edge. On the palate, it is light-bodied yet remarkably tense and energetic. The fruit remains pristine and transparent, anchored by fresh acidity and gently grippy, slightly chewy tannins on the finish that lend a firm, dry structure characteristic of its stem inclusion.

Serving Suggestion

  • Temperature: Serve at 14–16°C (57–60°F) in large Burgundy bowls to emphasize the delicate, lifted aromatics.
  • Decanting: Minimal aeration is required; open 30 minutes prior to serving. Pairs beautifully with roast quail, duck carpaccio, or subtle mushroom dishes. Drink between 2027 and 2036.
