Ethereal Perfume, Crisp Cherry, Delicate Spice, and Graceful Tension

Crafted by the visionary micro-négociant Jane Eyre, the 2024 expression of Savigny-lès-Beaune’s prestigious Aux Vergelesses is a triumph of elegance from a challenging vintage. Showcasing an extra depth of perfume with bright cherry and subtle earthy spice, it reflects the iron-rich soils of the Premier Cru. Delicately extracted and restrained, this is a luminous, transparent Pinot Noir that dances lightly on the palate with fine-grained tannins and crisp acidity.

Critical Recognition

Jasper Morris MW 89 pts
  • 89 Points - Jasper Morris MW (Inside Burgundy): Three barrels, one new. The Savigny Vergelesses has a lighter colour, not atypical of this location. A touch of graphite from the new Chassin barrel. This is on the lighter side, but perseveres well on the palate with a little strawberry and spice to finish. In bottle. Drink from 2028-2031. Tasted Oct 2025 by Jasper Morris MW.

Highlights

  • 100% Pinot Noir sourced from Aux Vergelesses, widely recognized as the most revered Premier Cru climat in Savigny-lès-Beaune.
  • Vines are rooted in iron-rich, reddish clay and limestone soils on an eastern-facing slope, giving the wine its signature minerality and tension.
  • Vinified with Jane Eyre's trademark gentle touch, incorporating approximately 20% whole-cluster bunches to enhance structural framework and floral lift.
  • Aged with minimal intervention in French oak barrels, utilizing only 20% new wood to allow the terroir and delicate 2024 fruit profile to shine through unmasked.
  • The 2024 vintage, marked by a wet spring and cool conditions, yielded lower quantities but resulted in a lithe, fresh, and highly aromatic expression of Pinot Noir.

Tasting Notes

Pours a luminous, pale ruby in the glass. The bouquet is beautifully wide and intensely perfumed, leading with bright red cherry, wild raspberry, and crushed rose petals, underscored by a dusting of white pepper and earthy woodland spice. On the palate, it is light-bodied and incredibly energetic. The fruit is carried by a spine of crisp, vibrant acidity and finely etched tannins that provide a gently gripping, mineral-driven finish. Ethereal and refreshingly tense.

Serving Suggestion

  • Temperature: Serve slightly chilled at 14–15°C (57–59°F) in large Burgundy bowls to coax out the delicate, highly lifted aromatics.
  • Decanting: Minimal aeration needed; opening 30 minutes before serving is ideal. Pairs exceptionally well with roast duck, wild mushroom tart, or charcuterie. Drink from 2027 through 2035.
