Wild Blueberries, Violet Petals, Tea Leaves, and Silky Volnay Elegance

Crafted from old vines under Jean-Marie Fourrier’s micro-négociant label, this Volnay captures the appellation’s hallmark perfume with striking purity. Entirely destemmed and gently extracted, it reveals a fragrant core of wild blueberry, bramble berry, and violet, nuanced by dried mint and clove. It is beautifully medium-bodied and focused, marrying nervy tension with a firm yet deeply elegant texture.

Critical Recognition

James Suckling 94 pts
  • 94 Points - James Suckling: Fragrant violets, bramble berries, wild blueberries and cloves on the nose, as well as a hint of dried mint and tea leaves. It’s medium- to full-bodied, nervy and tense, with a decidedly firm yet elegant tannin frame. Try from 2026.

Highlights

  • 100% Pinot Noir sourced from mature Vieilles Vignes (old vines) in Volnay, bottled under Jean-Marie Fourrier's esteemed micro-négociant label, Vigne Comte de Chapelle.
  • Grown on Volnay's signature clay-limestone soils, which impart the wine's characteristic floral lift and graceful structural finesse.
  • Sourced from old vines that naturally regulate yields, providing exceptional flavor concentration and textural depth without requiring heavy extraction.
  • Vinified according to Fourrier’s strict low-intervention philosophy: 100% destemmed, fermented spontaneously with indigenous yeasts, and managed with ultra-gentle punch-downs.
  • Aged carefully in approximately 20% new French oak for 12 to 16 months and bottled unfined and unfiltered, preserving the pristine aromatics of the generous 2022 vintage.

Tasting Notes

Pours a bright, transparent ruby core. The nose is highly expressive and perfumed, bursting with pure aromas of wild blueberry, bramble berry, and violet petals, beautifully layered with hints of dried mint, tea leaves, and clove. On the palate, it is medium-bodied and beautifully focused, driven by a nervy, energetic tension. The concentrated old-vine fruit is perfectly framed by firm yet impeccably elegant tannins and a streak of fresh acidity, culminating in a long, savory, and refined finish.

Serving Suggestion

  • Temperature: Serve slightly chilled at 15–16°C (59–61°F) in large Burgundy bowls to enhance the wine's delicate floral perfume.
  • Decanting: Minimal aeration required; simply open 30 to 45 minutes before serving. Pairs wonderfully with roast duck, pan-seared pheasant, or a delicate wild mushroom ragout. Drink from 2026 through 2038.
