Bramble Berries, Violet Petals, Silky Tannins, and Classic Volnay Elegance

Crafted from old vines under Jean-Marie Fourrier’s prestigious micro-négociant label, this Volnay captures the village’s hallmark perfume with striking purity. Entirely destemmed and gently extracted, it reveals a deeply fragrant core of wild berry, red cherry, and crushed violet. Medium-bodied and perfectly focused, it marries the generous, ripe fruit of the 2023 vintage with a firm yet exquisitely silky texture.

Highlights

  • 100% Pinot Noir sourced from mature Vieilles Vignes (old vines) in Volnay, bottled under Jean-Marie Fourrier's esteemed micro-négociant label, Vigne Comte de Chapelle.
  • Grown on Volnay's signature clay-limestone soils, which impart the wine's characteristic floral lift, bright energy, and graceful structural finesse.
  • Sourced from old vines that naturally regulate yields, providing exceptional flavor concentration and textural depth without requiring heavy extraction.
  • Vinified according to Fourrier’s strict low-intervention philosophy: 100% destemmed, fermented spontaneously with indigenous yeasts, and managed with ultra-gentle punch-downs.
  • Aged carefully in approximately 20% new French oak, preserving the pristine aromatics and expressive, generous fruit of the highly successful 2023 vintage.

Tasting Notes

Pours a bright, transparent ruby core. The nose is highly expressive and perfumed, bursting with pure aromas of wild strawberry, bramble berry, and violet petals, beautifully layered with hints of subtle earth and warm spice. On the palate, it is medium-bodied and beautifully focused, driven by an energetic tension. The concentrated old-vine fruit is perfectly framed by impeccably elegant, silky tannins and a streak of fresh acidity, culminating in a long, savory, and refined finish.

Serving Suggestion

  • Temperature: Serve slightly chilled at 15–16°C (59–61°F) in large Burgundy bowls to enhance the wine's delicate floral perfume.
  • Decanting: Minimal aeration required; simply open 30 to 45 minutes before serving. Pairs wonderfully with roast duck, pan-seared pheasant, or a delicate wild mushroom ragout. Drink from 2027 through 2039.
