Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru lies adjacent to Chambertin on the Côte de Nuits' mid-slope, with the Guillon parcel featuring clay-limestone soils. Hand-harvested grapes from this small holding undergo the domaine's signature vinification—100% destemmed, cold soak, extended maceration, and 13-15 months in entirely new French oak barrels (inspired by mentor Henri Jayer)—building extraordinary concentration and structure at around 14% alcohol from the balanced 2021 vintage.
Tasting Notes
Deep ruby hue; sauvage-inflected nose of spice, floral notes, wood toast, menthol, and dark fruits. Full-bodied, muscular palate with serious size, weight, power, evident minerality, caressing mouthfeel, attractive energy, and a hugely long, moderately austere finish.
Serving and Cellaring
Serve at 16-18°C in a Burgundy glass; decant 2 hours. Drink from 2030-2045+ for profound evolution; pairs with roasted game, beef Wellington, truffled dishes, or aged hard cheeses.
