Crafted by Maison Joseph Drouhin, a prestigious Burgundy house founded in 1880, the 2023 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Baudes is a pure Pinot Noir sourced from the Baudes vineyard, a premier cru site located below the grand cru Bonnes-Mares in Chambolle-Musigny at approximately 250-280 meters elevation. This small vineyard, with its east-facing mild incline and complex Jurassic limestone subsoil, imparts elegance and depth to the wine. Grapes are hand-harvested, fermented with indigenous yeasts in open-top vats, and aged for 14-18 months in French oak barrels (20% new) to balance fruit purity with subtle oak integration. This biodynamic approach, certified since 2009, captures the 2023 vintage’s exceptional ripeness and generosity, marked by a hot growing season that produced high-quality, concentrated fruit across Burgundy. The result is a wine of refined structure and complexity, reflecting Drouhin’s commitment to terroir-driven winemaking and the Baudes vineyard’s historic reputation.

Tasting Notes

This Pinot Noir exhibits a lively ruby hue with aromas of red cherries, violets, and black cherry, accented by hints of truffle, humus, and subtle venison as it matures. On the palate, it is medium-bodied and harmonious, offering flavors of candied fruit, kirsch, and delicate minerality, supported by restrained, silky tannins, balanced acidity, and a long, complex finish with floral undertones.

Awards and Accolades

Serving and Cellaring
