Silky Violet Perfume, Ripe Red Berries, and Aristocratic Finesse

The 2022 Joseph Drouhin Chambolle-Musigny is an exquisitely lace-like, perfumed red Burgundy that embodies the legendary grace of its village. Sourced from thin clay-limestone soils, it opens with enchanting aromas of wild raspberries, dark cherries, and fresh violets over a medium-bodied, cashmere-soft palate.

Terroir & Winemaking Reality

  • The Lace & Silk Terroir of Chambolle-Musigny: Often described as the most feminine and perfumed appellation in the Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny features thin, active-limestone soils mixed with fine silt. This unique soil gives Pinot Noir a uniquely silky tannin structure, ethereal floral aromatics, and a light-footed structural elegance that distinguishes it from its more muscular neighbors.
  • Delicate Maison Drouhin Craftsmanship: Under the guidance of winemaker Véronique Drouhin, the Pinot Noir fruit is hand-harvested and strictly sorted. The grapes are completely destemmed and fermented in open wooden vats using indigenous yeasts. Aged for 14 to 18 months in French oak barrels (20% new), the solar richness of 2022 is framed with signature Drouhin delicacy, preserving the pure violet and red fruit aromatics.

Highlights

  • 100% Pinot Noir estate- and grower-harvested from thin clay-limestone soils in Chambolle-Musigny.
  • Crafted by the historic Maison Joseph Drouhin, celebrated globally for their pure, organic-minded, and understated style.
  • A radiant 2022 expression offering cashmere-soft tannins, lifted floral aromatics, and effortless harmony.

Tasting Notes

  • Appearance: Bright, translucent ruby-red core with energetic garnet highlights at the rim.
  • Nose: Intensely fragrant, open, and airily perfumed. It opens with aromas of wild raspberries, red cherries, and dried rose petals, accompanied by notes of fresh violet, delicate baking spices, and damp earth.
  • Palate: Dry, medium-bodied, and remarkably silky. The attack delivers a pure wave of red berry fruit that glides over cashmere-soft, fine-grained tannins. Balanced by a fresh spine of natural acidity, it finishes clean, long, and beautifully harmonious.

Serving Suggestion

  • Temperature: Serve slightly cool at 14–16°C. A gentle chill highlights the bright red fruit and preserves its delicate floral perfume.
  • Decanting: A brief 20-to-30 minute decant is recommended to allow the aromatics to uncoil fully. Enjoy now through 2034.
  • Western Pairing: Pan-seared duck breast with cherry reduction, roasted rack of lamb, veal cutlets, wild mushroom risottos, or soft cheeses like Brie.
  • Asian Pairing: Peking duck wraps, Cantonese barbecued pork (Char Siu), soy sauce chicken, or delicate pan-fried pork dumplings.
