Crafted by Maison Joseph Drouhin, a distinguished Burgundy house founded in 1880, the 2023 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru is a pure Pinot Noir sourced from the prestigious Charmes vineyard in Gevrey-Chambertin, situated at 250-280 meters elevation below Chambertin and adjacent to Griotte-Chambertin. The vineyard’s limestone-rich soils with marl and rocky outcrops impart elegance and complexity to the wine. Grapes are hand-harvested, with 20-50% whole clusters depending on vintage conditions, and fermented with indigenous yeasts in open-top vats to enhance aromatic depth. The wine is aged for 14-18 months in French oak barrels (20-25% new) to integrate structure while preserving fruit purity. This biodynamic approach, certified since 2009, captures the 2023 vintage’s exceptional ripeness and balance, shaped by a warm growing season that produced concentrated, high-quality fruit. The result is a wine of profound richness and harmony, reflecting Drouhin’s dedication to terroir-driven winemaking and the Grand Cru’s storied heritage.

Tasting Notes

This Grand Cru exhibits a deep ruby hue with aromas of ripe cherry, blackberry, and fine spices, complemented by elegant musk and subtle woody notes. On the palate, it is full-bodied yet refined, offering concentrated flavors of red and black berries, graphite, and spice, supported by fine-grained tannins, vibrant acidity, and a long, harmonious finish with a pure, mineral-driven aftertaste.
