Crafted by Maison Joseph Drouhin, a prestigious Burgundy house founded in 1880, the 2023 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Embazées is a pure Chardonnay sourced from the Embazées vineyard, a premier cru site in the southern part of Chassagne-Montrachet, Côte de Beaune, at approximately 200-250 meters elevation. The vineyard’s complex soils of marl, limestone, and clay contribute to the wine’s opulence and finesse. Grapes are hand-harvested, gently pressed, and fermented with indigenous yeasts in French oak barrels (20-25% new), followed by 12-15 months of aging on lees to enhance texture and complexity. This biodynamic approach, certified since 2009, captures the 2023 vintage’s aromatic intensity and balanced acidity, shaped by a hot growing season that produced highly appealing, full-bodied whites. The result is a wine that balances richness with elegance, reflecting Drouhin’s commitment to terroir-driven winemaking.

Tasting Notes

This Chardonnay displays a bright golden hue with aromas of yellow fruits, hawthorn, and honeysuckle, evolving toward hazelnut and hints of honey. On the palate, it is medium-bodied and ample, offering flavors of ripe pear, citrus, and subtle oak, supported by vibrant acidity and a long, refined finish with mineral undertones.
