Bright Red Cherries, Elegant Spice, and Premier Cru Pedigree

The 2022 Joseph Drouhin Côte de Beaune is a remarkably refined, fruit-forward red Burgundy that punches well above its weight class thanks to a generous inclusion of young Premier Cru vines from Beaune. It opens with vibrant aromas of ripe red cherries, wild strawberries, and sweet violet florals, layered over subtle underbrush and fine oak spice. The palate is medium-bodied, silky, and beautifully balanced, offering succulent red fruit framed by supple, fine-grained tannins.

Terroir & Winemaking Reality

  • The Unique Pedigree of Côte de Beaune: Not to be confused with a generic regional wine, the rare "Côte de Beaune" village designation comes from a specific micro-zone on the high slopes above Beaune. Drouhin’s bottling consists largely of declassified young vines from their prestigious Premier Cru holdings in Beaune, granting this cuvée an extraordinary level of complexity, structure, and finesse compared to standard village offerings.
  • Delicate Maison Drouhin Craftsmanship: Under the guidance of winemaker Véronique Drouhin, the Pinot Noir fruit is hand-harvested and strictly sorted. Completely destemmed to highlight red fruit purity, it is aged for 12 to 15 months in French oak barrels (around 10% to 15% new). The solar warmth of the 2022 vintage is expertly captured, maintaining Drouhin's hallmark fresh acidity and silk-draped texture.

Highlights

  • 100% Pinot Noir estate-harvested from high-elevation clay-limestone slopes above Beaune, featuring young Premier Cru vines.
  • Crafted by the historic Maison Joseph Drouhin, renowned globally for their organic-minded, elegant winemaking style.
  • A radiant 2022 expression offering exceptional value, supple tannins, and refined Burgundian charm.

Tasting Notes

  • Appearance: Bright, translucent ruby-red core with energetic crimson reflections at the rim.
  • Nose: Fresh, open, and elegantly perfumed. It opens with aromas of ripe red cherries, wild raspberries, and red plums, accompanied by notes of candied violets, light forest underbrush, and subtle toasted oak spice.
  • Palate: Dry, medium-bodied, and beautifully smooth. The attack delivers a succulent wave of red berry sap that flows over supple, fine-grained tannins. Driven by a fresh, juicy spine of natural acidity, it finishes clean, persistent, and delicately mineral.

Serving Suggestion

  • Temperature: Serve slightly cool at 14–16°C. A gentle chill highlights the bright red berry fruit and preserves its fresh floral perfume.
  • Decanting: A brief 20-to-30 minute decant is recommended to allow the aromatics to open up nicely. Enjoy now through 2032.
  • Western Pairing: Roast duck breast, pan-seared pork tenderloin with herbs, veal chops, wild mushroom risottos, or mild soft cheeses.
  • Asian Pairing: Peking duck wraps, Cantonese barbecued pork (Char Siu), soy sauce chicken, or steamed pork dumplings.
