Terroir & Winemaking Reality

  • The Historic Terroir of Givry: Famed historically as the favorite wine of King Henry IV, Givry is situated on the limestone-rich slopes of the Côte Chalonnaise, 10 km south of Chalon-sur-Saône. With prime south and southeast exposures, the limestone and clay soils impart a wonderful balance of vibrant red berry purity, structure, and earthy complexity to Pinot Noir.
  • Delicate Maison Drouhin Craftsmanship: Hand-harvested and strictly sorted, the fruit is completely destemmed and macerated with native yeasts. The wine ages for 10 to 14 months in French oak barriques (15% to 20% new wood). In the generous 2023 vintage, Drouhin’s disciplined elevage captures the vintage's sunny warmth while maintaining precise acidity and fine, velvety tannins.

Highlights

  • 100% Pinot Noir estate- and grower-harvested from prime limestone slopes in Givry.
  • Crafted by the historic Maison Joseph Drouhin, renowned globally for their pure, organic-minded winemaking style.
  • A radiant 2023 expression offering smooth fruit generosity, firm yet refined tannins, and great versatility.

Tasting Notes

  • Appearance: Bright, lively ruby-red core with energetic crimson highlights at the rim.
  • Nose: Fresh, inviting, and berry-focused. It opens with intense aromas of red currant, gooseberry, and black cherry, complemented by notes of sweet floral spice, subtle toasted oak, and damp limestone.
  • Palate: Dry, medium-bodied, and beautifully balanced. The attack delivers a succulent core of ripe orchard berries supported by firm yet refined tannins and lively natural acidity, finishing clean, smooth, and persistent.

Serving Suggestion

  • Temperature: Serve slightly cool at 14–16°C. A gentle chill highlights the bright red berry fruit and keeps the tannin structure polished.
  • Decanting: A brief 20-to-30 minute decant is recommended to allow the fruit and oak aromatics to harmonize. Enjoy now through 2030.
  • Western Pairing: Herb-roasted lamb chops, duck breast with berry reduction, grilled veal tenderloin, wild mushroom risottos, or Comté cheese.
  • Asian Pairing: Peking duck wraps, Cantonese barbecued pork (Char Siu), soy sauce chicken, or delicate pan-fried pork dumplings.
